Canadian Bureau for International Education Annual Conference 2016 & 2017

To increase Nova Scotia’s profile in the Ottawa area, the Student Recruitment and Retention working committee, a committee of the Innovation Team, sponsored a luncheon during the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) annual conference in Ottawa on November 16th, 2016.

Minister Regan spoke at the event, which was also attend by Deputy Minister Duff Montgomery, Senator Jim Cowen, Andy Fillmore (MP Halifax), Bill Casey (MP Cumberland—Colchester), representatives from the Colombian Embassy, Students, Nova Scotia representatives, guidance counsellors from the Ottawa area, and 500 conference delegates.

The objectives of the event were to promote Nova Scotia’s education and training expertise and to encourage attendees to visit Nova Scotia for the November 2017 CBIE conference in Halifax and participate in associated events including FAM tours and tourism opportunities.

The Nova Scotia lunch was the best attended at the conference. We received excellent feedback from many in attendance that our presentation opened their eyes to the quality of Nova Scotia education and the beauty of our province. Many delegates stated that our presentation has motivated them to attend the conference in Halifax in November 2017. As a result of the event in Ottawa, Nova Scotia received positive coverage in the PIE, the leading news source for the international education sector.
