Job posting: Retention Coordinator, Study and Stay™ – FOUNDATIONS


The Study and Stay™ FOUNDATIONS Retention Coordinator is responsible for developing and coordinating appropriate resources for international students in non-final years of study (years 1-3). This includes developing online and in-person programming, resources, and opportunities using online app technology to support international students during their studies at a Nova Scotia university or college.

This position will map out existing on-campus supports and, where there are gaps, develop new initiatives for international students. This position will work with EduNova and its members to support the goal of retaining international students in Nova Scotia.

Working in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent deadlines and various stakeholders, the Study and Stay™ FOUNDATIONS Retention Coordinator must be a skilled planner with a strong client-service orientation, and comfortable using technology to deliver online and in-person programming. The successful candidate will work closely not only with students but with all of Nova Scotia’s post-secondary educational institutions, various provincial and federal government departments, mentors, and employers from various sectors across Nova Scotia.

EduNova’s Senior Manager, Student Success and Retention


  • Coordinate all aspects of a new Study and Stay™ FOUNDATIONS initiative, using iCent app technology
  • Oversee iCent App and content sharing for students in non-final years of study
  • Promote student engagement of app and work with EduNova’s partners and students to ensure training and use of app
  • Coordinate and oversee push-notifications for online webinars, workshops, and learning using app technology
  • Asset mapping – research and map out volunteer opportunities students and develop a provincial volunteer database for international students, communication via the app
  • Develop and facilitate a volunteer training and share volunteer engagement opportunities with international students
  • Facilitate and share opportunities for social, cultural, and community engagement
  • Develop mechanisms to ensure each student is accessing appropriate resources at their respective campus
  • Organize appropriate student retention activities and events (in-person and online)
  • Develop and organize appropriate workshops and webinars (in-person and online)
  • Coordinate a model of online or in-person mentorship
  • Manage a program budget
  • Develop rural connections and opportunities for students
  • Chair an Alumni group and engage alumni in activities to support international students
  • Facilitate rural connections and networking opportunities for students
  • Support other EduNova retention initiatives as required


  • Post-secondary degree
  • Program planning/coordination experience, including scheduling, budgeting, managing multiple priorities, problem-solving and reporting
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with meticulous attention to detail, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of app technology. Highly proficient in Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Outlook. Comfortable with using new technologies and managing documents in cloud environments
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills
  • Ability to anticipate issues and risks, with confidence to make independent decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal and social skills with a professional and effective manner in working with the public, EduNova members, university staff & faculty and international contacts
  • Able to multi-task and work independently in a dynamic and diverse environment with numerous interruptions and constantly changing priorities
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel across the province
  • Experience publishing content and tracking results on popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • International student support experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of Nova Scotia’s education and training sector is an asset
  • Management experience is an asset

Salary, compensation and work benefits:

  • Full-time contract
  • Salary is $50,000 per year, plus competitive benefits package
